Food addiction? sex, masturbation, pornography addictions exist?

Kindly read the previous episode here before proceeding to read this episode.

Is ‘food addiction real?’ ‘Food addiction’ can be an addiction to junk food. This can be compared to drug addiction. Food addiction involves the same areas of the brain as drug addiction. However, experts do not really consider ‘food addiction’ to be true due to lack of scientific evidences. Processed junk food has a powerful effect on the reward centers of the brain. ‘Food addiction’ is not caused by lack of willpower but believed to be caused by a dopamine signal that affects the biochemistry of the brain.

Is masturbation an addiction? Is pornography an addiction? Although there is a push to medically recognize masturbation addiction, some say it should be recognized as a compulsion, not an addiction. There is no clinical diagnosis for masturbation and pornographic addiction. Masturbation is not recognized as addictive by the American Psychiatric Association.

Is sexual addiction real? A major debate among experts exists as to whether or not sex addiction is real experience. Some experts claim that sex addiction is merely a combination of high sexual drive and low impulse control rather than a true addiction. However, others claim that sex addiction mirrors other addictions in many ways such as the continuation of dangerous behavior despite experiencing negative consequences.

“Sex addiction” often comes with feelings of powerlessness and helplessness over one’s sex drive and how to control it.

Complications of ‘sex addiction’ can also arise out of traumatic experiences, or from people who use sex to escape daily problems. To illustrate, a man or woman who was raped or molested as a child may cope with this abuse by compulsively seeking many sex partners. This act may ‘help’ the abused victim accepts the trauma. In this example, the traumatized individuals should consider treatment for possible emotional and mental health conditions that stem from sexual abuse.

Some sure signs of ‘sexual addiction’ (sex addiction, pornography, masturbation etc.) are:

-inappropriate sexual relationships (such as sex with anonymous partners or unsafe sex

-risky sexual activities (such as public sex, public masturbation)

– Spending significant time seeking sex

– distinct sexual practices (i.e. sadomasochism)

-using excessive sex for emotional or sexual fulfillment.

-watching excess pornography

-Failing to control one’s sexual urges and actions

-partaking in numerous affairs

Normally, a sexually addict will exhibit some of these signs almost every day.
