World Food Safety Day is celebrated on 7th June to draw global attention to the consequences of contaminated food and water to health. This day also focuses on the way to reduce the risk of food poisoning. The safety of food is a key to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
Food, shelter and clothing are termed as the basic needs of the human beings. International agencies are striving hard to provide adequate information to the general masses about the importance of the safe food.
Every year 600 million people fall prey to various food borne diseases. Among these, children below 5 years of age are at a higher risk. Poverty ridden sections are more prone to illnesses due to unhygienic food consumption.
As they say and wisely say, “Health is wealth”. But what if our food is not safe? How would our health be? This brought the attention of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) to observe June 7 as World Food Safety Day every year.
