How often do we remain sitting in our fall? I know it’s sometimes difficult and quite troubling to let go the fall and move on, but I have just one question to ask- is it really worth to “waste” ourselves by giving up? My dear, giving up should not be an option.
Some few days ago, I went to the saloon for my hair and my hairdresser asked me to get her lunch. At the “food joint,” I met a young man shabbily dressed, looking so dirty and unkept. One would wonder where is he from. After ordering for the food, I sat not so far from the young man, in fact we were very close to each other. I greeted him and gazed my eyes at a video projected on a screen. The man called me in the Akan language “Obaa,” I turned to give him attention and he asked, “why is it that in this part of the country, people look down on people and treat them as nobody because of how they appear?” I looked at him, smiled and answered, “no one may never know why.” He then said something that really touched me. He said, “well, this is part of life, regardless of how people treat me, regardless of how many times I am belittled, I won’t look back but I will march on.” I was like wow, well that is the right thing to do. It was at this time I actually realized this man was shabbily dressed and looked dirty. He complained about how he was badly treated at the food joint.
Assuming you were the man, would you have been able to stand the test of time, sit and wait for your food to be ready, or you would have left in anger and in disappointment?
Wake up!
Remember Peter betrayed Jesus but woke up from his fall and became confident in Christ. Also, Mary Magdalene (supposedly a prostitute), woke up from her weakness, became a disciple of Jesus and was privileged to be the first disciple to have seen Jesus after He rose from death.
Don’t you think these people (Peter & Mary) we look up to ever fell? If these people had not woken up, do you think they would have gotten to where they are now?
Yeah, times are hard, but do we remain in our fall just because times are hard?
Remember the old time kindergarten poem Humpty Dumpty?
Let’s consider the “after fall”- no body could put Dumpty together again. Anytime we fall, no one, not even the most prominent person can take us out of it . It will take us to rise from our fall. We will have to stand by ourselves. We will have to wake up ourselves.
This poem does not explicitly state that the subject is an egg. However, many people assume Humpty Dumpty symbolizes an egg. Notwithstanding, we are not eggs. We have the capacity to wake up and we can do that by ourselves and not by someone else. We aren’t fragile like the egg. Yes! We are different, with different temperaments and different capacities to stand hardships. But whenever we fall, it will take us to stand. Even if others try to pull us up and we are not willing to stand, we’ll never be able to wake up from the fall.
No matter the challenges, the sins, the addictions we are into, it will take us to initiate the process of waking up.
Let’s wake up!
Say this short prayer with me,
Lord, I can’t go back and I won’t go back to the way things and I used to be. For in your presence now I will remain and live. Take me out of my slumber and renew your Spirit within me.
Amen.
