According to many renowned biologists, the human body contains approximately 24,000 genes. However, religious individuals argue that humans are composed of spirits, thus considering humans as spiritual beings. Conversely, biologists assert that humans are molecular entities due to the presence of genes. In the spiritual realm, as suggested by religious believers, billions of spirits exist, including both good and bad spirits. The spirituality of humans, similar to genes, can be influenced significantly by the human environment. Therefore, what is the connection between spirits and genes?
Numerous religious individuals, including Christians and Muslims, dismiss scientific explanations regarding our existence on Earth. While religious people argue from the standpoint of spirituality and faith, scientists base their arguments on evidence, evolution, and molecular genetics.
It is fascinating to discover the numerous correlations between science, particularly biology, and religion, especially Christianity. Christianity revolves around faith, while biology revolves around evidence.
Scientists have been unable to prove the existence of God. However, they have succeeded in demonstrating that all living species on Earth share a common ancestor through evolution.
Christianity teaches that God created Man and the creatures in the world. Could this common ancestor, as suggested by biologists, be in some way related to God? Christians believe that God created the world, so it is conceivable that this ancestor, as proposed by biologists, was also created by God, according to Christian beliefs. Many religions assert that God is a spirit and that spiritual forces control everything on Earth. Christianity, in particular, views the world as a spiritual realm, as explicitly mentioned in the Bible. In contrast, biologists, who place great emphasis on evolution and genetics, perceive all living things in the world as being controlled by genes. What then could be the link that unites these two great theories or concepts?
By using a case study of a mentally ill individual, we can observe that madness can be attributed to spiritual attacks. Alternatively, madness can be caused by genetic disorders. So, what is the actual remedy for madness? Will the remedy come from a religious perspective, such as employing a good spirit (God) to combat the evil spirit? Or will the remedy come from a biological perspective, such as correcting a defective or mutated gene?

The best way to appreciate nature (science) or religion is to possess a deep understanding of both science and religion. Many great scientists in history were devout believers. Gregor Mendel, the Australian monk who discovered the fundamental principles of heredity, and Louis Pasteur, who made groundbreaking discoveries in vaccination and pasteurization, were both devout Christians, particularly Catholics. Their knowledge of both religion and science enabled them to make significant discoveries in the realm of nature and to establish connections between science and religion.

Biology primarily concerns genes, while Christianity primarily focuses on spirits. Many biologists have yet to provide conclusive evidence regarding the reasons and mechanisms behind dreams. However, Christians have offered explanations that attribute dreams to spiritual experiences. This indicates that science cannot solve every question. Until scientists and religious individuals reach a consensus that religion holds superiority over science, contradictions between science and religion will persist. Scientists will not readily accept anything miraculous from religious people, while miracles hold great significance in the lives of many religious individuals. Scientists may perceive “miraculous” events as mere accidents, and such accidents can sometimes have a profound impact on scientists’ lives.
God is good and loves everyone, including those who do not believe in His existence. I am compelled to say that God operates in a different dimension of spiritual affairs through genes. Genes were not invented; they were discovered. Genes have existed since creation and have been part of the human immune system since then. I believe that God, in His wisdom, unveiled this “secret” to biologists, enabling them to manipulate human and animal systems to benefit one another. Utilizing genetic tools to rectify human disorders is part of the service rendered to humanity. Christians, on the other hand, would prefer to employ the power granted to them by Jesus Christ to operate in the spiritual world. Biologists would also prefer to apply their knowledge of genetics to navigate this realm.
According to the ERV Bible, Luke 4:38-40 states:
“Jesus left the synagogue and went to Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was very sick. She had a high fever. They asked Jesus to do something to help her. He stood very close to her and ordered the sickness to go away. The sickness left her, and she got up and began serving them.”
High fever is a common disorder that scientists would typically treat with drugs that target the genes responsible for the fever. However, during Jesus’ time, He expelled the “spirit” of fever from Simon’s mother-in-law. This method of addressing diseases is still possible in our world today.
God did not make a mistake by allowing biology or science to progress to its current state. Let us remember that everything good comes from God. Some people argue that some scientists introduce harmful elements into the world. However, have we also considered the harmful elements that many false prophets bring into the world? False religious individuals also introduce strange and harmful spirits into the world.
Let us appreciate science and nature. Let us love God and everything He has created. Genetic operations are some of the hidden spiritual secrets that God has unveiled to humanity. Let us respect chemists and biologists. By contributing generously to the improvement of nature, let us make this world a peaceful place.
