International Nurses Day- 2021

Nurses have been playing crucial roles in taking care of each and every patient as hospitalisations increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless of the ‘boundaries’ in this pandemic, nurses still try to work tirelessly in their line of duties.

The International Nurses and Midwives Day is globally celebrated on May 12 annually to appreciate the nurses’ efforts. This day also marks the anniversary of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing.

Nurses play very important roles that seem to be insignificant to many. Sometimes nurses attend to patients who need immediate attention or just a few encouraging words.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), 9 million or more nurses and midwives are required by 2030 so that all countries can attain Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number three on health and well-being.

The them for Nursing and midwives Day 2021 is “A vision for the future healthcare.”
